Chapter 162: Round 2!

Chapter 162: Round 2!

Jason had a gun on him but something told him he would need his bullets for the zombie that had the fragment.

He didn’t know what was happening but it looked like this zombie was cautious; what was Jason’s current stats?

Jason was at his strongest right now and he had every intention of showing his strength.

He knew he couldn’t use the Nexus, not on these lower zombies but this was where the skill, Birth Of The Marksman, came in handy.

Jason knew he might need this skill but for now, he had to handle these creatures.

Jason took out his dagger and began cutting them down one after the other.

And the moment he saw an opening, he threw his dagger with pinpoint accuracy right at the zombie.

"Are you ready to come out now?" Jason asked and there it was, the zombie he had fought at the hospital growling at him with a dagger lunged at his torso.

"I didn’t know something like this was possible," Jason said, preparing himself for combat.

He equipped his gun and was ready to bury the ammo into the zombie, Jason knew he couldn’t let his guard down or he risked dying.

He saw what it was capable of and he couldn’t take his chance, Jason needed to get rid of this zombie before it could do any more harm.

The zombie rushed towards him, running in a zig-zag manner so it would be a lot harder for Jason to hit his mark, this would have been effective but Jason’s dexterity with weapons had increased upon activating the skill that complemented this aspect of battle.

Jason took a deep breath and a bullet escaped the nozzle of his gun, tearing through the air.

He knew that these types of zombies were conscious enough to defend their heads so Jason knew it was best not to get the head but rather, the limbs of the zombie.

He didn’t care how fast a zombie was, it would become less of a threat without a leg.

Jason didn’t expect this battle to be easy and he was right to think so because his bullet missed the target.

The zombie closed in on Jason, grabbing his face with the palm of its hand and attempting to sink its teeth into his neck but Jason managed to stop this by pushing its forehead back,

It gnawed like a hungry dog, trying its best to nip his neck but Jason managed to push the zombie back before letting another bullet go almost immediately but the bullet missed once again.

Jason didn’t know why he was missing his target, there was no way that this zombie could be faster than a bullet so why was he missing?

He noticed that the zombie had managed to sink its rotten finger into his skin but this wasn’t how the infection spread, not that it mattered as Jason was already infected.

"You’re a tough one," Jason muttered and the zombie growled as it had removed the dagger that was stuck in its chest.

The zombie looked at the dagger for a few seconds and Jason couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

What was this fragment doing to them?

There was no way that a zombie could learn after death, it was understandable if they had muscle memory but learning as they go was something that shouldn’t be possible due to their brain being dead.

They should have very limited brain activity but this was unprecedented.

It was something that Jason hadn’t even seen in the games he played but he knew that he couldn’t let this zombie go again.

Jason knew he might have to use the Nexus but he needed the zombie to get close to him first before activating this skill as there was a time limit for this.

Jason didn’t like how the zombie was staring at the knife and decided to make a move.

Jason fired a series of bullets aimed at the zombie and its predicted evasion path making it impossible for the zombie to escape this barrage.

Jason wanted to conserve his bullets but he now knew he had no choice.

He had to overwhelm this zombie, this was the only way to achieve victory and retrieve the fragment.

And it landed, the bullet blew off a few of the zombie’s fingers as well as piercing his legs.

This wasn’t enough to affect the zombie in hindsight but it was a good start as the dagger in its hand fell due to the missing fingers.

Jason charged towards the zombie and fired a barrage of bullets aimed at its head but just as he expected, the zombie protected it.

This was what Jason was counting on, the moment he was within proximity.

Jason realized that this zombie had a plan of its own, the zombie kicked Jason right in the torso.

The force was enough to make his knees buckle and Jason tried to catch his breath, he felt his chest tightening.

The zombie had him, the zombie tackled Jason and while on him, Jason realized that this zombie was physically stronger than him as it slowly began to overpower him.

Jason had to scan the zombie, maybe he would figure out its weakness with the information gotten.

[Type: Stalker]

[Level: ???]

[Stats: ???]

[Threat Level: High]

Jason then remembered that he couldn’t scan the other zombie he had encountered before as well due to the fragment interfering with it.

The zombie managed to break through his hold, it was dead and as such, felt no pain.

Jason’s hand that had firmly gripped his face was soon covered in skin.

"Fuck!" Jason cussed out and he knew the last time he used the Nexus, he couldn’t even walk after and there were more zombies here so this would ensure his death.

However, before things could get any worse, Jason heard a gunshot and then the limp body of the zombie dropping on him.

Jason pushed the zombie off him and looked ahead to see Clementine standing there.

"Geez, I can’t even leave you to handle a zombie?" Clementine teased but she understood how troublesome that particular zombie was but how the fuck did it track them here?

"I had it handled," Jason tried to brush it off as he sat on the floor right next to the zombie.

"Sure you did, Jason... How did it find us?" Clementine asked, she was glad that her intuition was spot on but there was no way that this zombie could have coordinated such a complex attack. She knew this deep down as they weren’t even capable of communication so was this just a coincidence? Did it see an opportunity and strike?

"How did it find us..." Jason repeated, he had only entertained the idea briefly but what if it was the same for the zombies?

It was the fragment that created them so what if they had some sort of radar that alerted them when one was close by?

This was a possibility and Jason had to consider this possibility and how it could affect them in the future but he couldn’t tell Clementine what was wrong with him, that was the problem.

However, he knew that she would believe him due to what she had witnessed in the hospital.

Jason knew now wasn’t the right time as he didn’t fully understand it himself even though he hated lying to Clementine. For now, it was necessary.

"I have no idea but we need to be more careful moving forward," Jason said.

"And Clementine..." Jason paused, drawing the woman’s attention.

"Yeah?" She responded with a raised brow.

"Thank you for saving me," Jason said to which Clementine rolled her eyes.

"Now we’re even," Clementine said.

"Even? I have saved your life more than once!" Jason barked.
