Chapter 285 - 286: Bone China

Chapter 285 - 286: Bone China

In the Su family home, Mr. Su was sitting on the sofa.

The fact that his daughter had eschewed a respectable career to become a livestreamer had caused him to lose face completely.

But this daughter of his had been rebellious since she was a child. She had finally stopped obsessing over Cheng Jing’an and was now capable of building a career for herself.

’Although I’m not happy with her choice, I can’t really fault her for it. What if I provoke her, and she regresses, going back to fawning over Cheng Jing’an?’

He sighed, only looking up when Su Nian walked in.

His expression was still sour, but before he could speak, Su Nian’s own face changed.

Her gaze fell upon a display shelf in the living room, where a beautiful blue-and-white porcelain vase was placed.

The vase’s porcelain was a beautiful white with a faint bluish-green tint, and its blue floral patterns gave it a harmonious and graceful appearance.

The blue-and-white pattern, in particular, was at once simple yet magnificent, complex yet unified.

Much like traditional block-printed fabrics, it had a rustic, unpretentious, and elegant artistic quality.

And yet, inside that very vase, Su Nian saw a woman’s head.

’More ghosts. Why have I been running into so many of them lately? I’ve already seen two today, and now there’s another one here in the Su family home.’

"Who gave you this vase?"

Su Nian asked bluntly.

She gave the vase a once-over, already certain that there was a major problem with it.

’The thing is, Dad doesn’t normally collect antique vases. So why is this one suddenly here?’

’Was someone trying to frame him?’

Moreover, the problem with the vase was immense. The stench of blood clinging to it was overpowering.

And that woman’s head she’d just seen... The malevolent aura emanating from that ghost was arguably the strongest she had ever encountered.

’This female ghost must have had a lot of blood on her hands when she was alive.’

’But why on earth would a vase like this end up with Dad?’

As for Mr. Su, he saw his daughter, whom he hadn’t seen in days, come home only to immediately start criticizing his taste.

He was not pleased. With a sharp CLACK, he slammed the porcelain cup in his hand down on the coffee table.

His voice was laced with displeasure. "The moment you walk in the door, you start finding fault with everything. Do you still have any respect for me as your father?"

Su Nian frowned. Her tone was stiff, but she tried to soften it slightly.

"There’s something wrong with this vase. It’s tainted with the aura of a resentful spirit."

Mr. Su was already unhappy with Su Nian’s unrespectable career, and now he felt a surge of anger. In his worldview, all this talk of ghosts and gods was utter nonsense.

For Su Nian to bring this charade right to his face made him even more furious.

He had never seen one of Su Nian’s livestreams, so based on his own assumptions, he immediately retorted.

"I paid a fortune for this! I had your Uncle Yang bring it all the way back from Hong Kong for me, so what’s wrong with it? Don’t think that just because you’ve learned some hocus-pocus and can fool a few people, you can come in here and tell me what’s what! I’m telling you, Su Nian, in this house, I am the master!!!"

Su Nian said, "Yeah, yeah, you’re right."

Deep down, Mr. Su had been looking forward to his daughter’s return, but he now found himself subconsciously treating her with the harshest attitude.

Su Nian felt exasperated. Still, she couldn’t help but worry about him; he was, after all, this body’s father. She forced herself to calm down.

Then, she took the vase down from the shelf. Its shape was very elegant, with a slender neck—everything was perfectly proportioned.

The blue-and-white porcelain design, in particular, gave it a unique elegance.

And yet, the black energy clinging to it was incredibly dense. You could even say the cursed thing was still actively gathering ghost energy.

Su Nian patiently explained, "This thing is bad for our family’s feng shui."

The words had barely left her mouth when Mr. Su shot back, "Our family is doing great right now! We’re landing one big deal after another! What part of our business isn’t doing well?! You! If you don’t know what you’re talking about, then keep your mouth shut!!"

Utterly exasperated, Su Nian calmly took a small vial out of her pouch.

Mr. Su was puzzled. But before he could say anything, she dabbed two drops of an ice-cold liquid onto his eyelids. He was just about to scold his rebellious daughter...

...when he opened his eyes again, the blue-and-white vase looked completely different. He saw it was shrouded in thick black smoke.

And out of the mouth of the vase, the slender head of a woman was emerging.

The woman’s lips were curled into a wicked smile aimed right at him. He rubbed his eyes, trying to make sure he wasn’t mistaken.

But when he looked again, what he had just seen seemed to have vanished.

But now he was starting to believe Su Nian. In a strained voice, he asked, "What did I just see?"

Though it was a question, his eyes were fixed on the vase, unblinking, as if hoping to see it again.

Su Nian said, "See? There really is something wrong with this vase. How exactly did you get it?"

"I... I heard from your Uncle Yang... He said it had an extremely high collection value, so I bought it. I had no idea it was so... malevolent."

Su Nian thought for a moment before continuing, "This thing is incredibly malevolent. More importantly, it’s draining our family’s luck!"

With that, Su Nian picked up the vase and examined it closely before coming to a conclusion.

"This is clearly bone china!"

"Bone china? What’s that? I’ve never heard of it!"

Mr. Su was dumbfounded and quickly asked.

Su Nian shook her head. She held the vase, examining it closely as she explained.

"Originally, foreigners wanted to imitate our country’s porcelain-making techniques, but they didn’t have our specific type of clay. So they came up with a method: they added animal bone ash to create ceramics similar to ours."

"This blue-and-white piece is one such example. Except, this one was made with human ashes."

Hearing just the first part of the explanation made Mr. Su uneasy. The final sentence made his eyes go wide.

Bone china!!

Ignorance had been bliss. Now that he’d heard Su Nian’s explanation, it sounded even more sinister.

Especially upon hearing about the human ashes, he instantly scooted further away, not wanting to be tainted by such an inauspicious object.

Once he’d put some distance between them, he asked in astonishment.

"You’re saying this blue-and-white vase contains human ashes?"

Su Nian nodded gravely, her hand stroking the smooth surface of the porcelain once more.

"Yes. This blue-and-white vase was definitely made with human ashes."

"Moreover, the person who made this was incredibly malicious. They likely used the ashes of a depraved murderer. And while they were at it, they imprisoned the murderer’s soul inside."

"Inside this vase. As the murderer’s resentment grows stronger, it will slowly drain our family’s fortune, plunging us into a state of irreversible ruin."
