Chapter 417 - 288: Plot Hodgepodge

"—This is your Soul blood. It always was. I don’t need it. Without your Soul, your body won’t last much longer!"

But An Jin just shook her head gently. "Ze Sheng, you know better than anyone that you need it more than I do..."

The surrounding Demonic Qi suddenly began to stir. It had clearly detected her presence. Like ravenous ghouls, the tendrils of Qi scrambled toward her, and the dark aura they carried shot forward like a sharp blade.

At the critical moment, the Silver Wolf arrived, streaking through the clouds wrapped in arcs of lightning. It snatched her up in its jaws, but the blade of Demonic Qi had already pierced its left foreleg, leaving a gaping, crimson gouge.

Demonic Qi seeped into his internal organs through the wound.

The Silver Wolf coughed up a mouthful of blood, but he endured the agony and quickly carried her away to a relatively safe area.

Xi covered their retreat, but he was also covered in numerous wounds.

After carrying her out of the danger zone, the Silver Wolf could no longer control his body. He staggered a few steps and collapsed to the ground.

"Ling Hong, hang on..." An Jin fought back the stinging in her eyes as a faint white light gathered in her hands. She used it to quickly dispel the black miasma spreading from his wound.

But the wound itself could only be healed by his own power, which required time—the one thing they didn’t have.

"COUGH, COUGH—Mi Yin?! You useless piece of trash, are you really going to help those vile Demon Beasts hurt Jin’er?!" Ling Hong clutched his chest and forced himself to his feet. Shielding An Jin behind him, he roared at the sky.

The pursuing Snake Beast froze in mid-air.

’Jin’er?’

He stared blankly at the ground, a flicker of confusion in his pitch-black eyes. His mind was a daze, as if controlled by some force that prevented him from thinking too deeply.

’Those ferocious-looking "Demon Beasts" on the ground, barely hanging on, actually dared to scream at me? And they were using Jin’er to threaten me, when Jin’er is right here...’ Mi Yin subconsciously glanced behind him.

The ethereal black mist behind him seemed to be coalescing into a human figure.

’But I’m killing these Demon Beasts for "Jin’er," to stop them from hurting her.’

"Mi Yin!"

A familiar voice pulled him back to his senses.

An Jin stepped out from behind Ling Hong and started to walk forward. Ling Hong and Xi’s expressions changed drastically as they rushed to stop her. "Don’t go! Mi Yin is being controlled! He’s not the same Mi Yin we knew—he’s already degenerated into a Demon Beast!"

"I believe... Mi Yin won’t hurt me..." But her voice was fragile and weak. In this apocalyptic catastrophe, countless Beastmen had already died. Even the powerful King Beasts by her side couldn’t resist this force, to say nothing of her own life, which was also...

An Jin gently pulled her hands free and shook her head. "Let me go." After a pause, she continued, "If... if Mi Yin really kills me, I’ll accept it. It’s just... how painful would it be, to be killed by your own first mate? I suppose I’d regret choosing to form a bond with him all those years ago, wouldn’t I?"

Though her voice was faint, every single word reached his ears.

’Regret forming a bond?’

’She regrets it.’

For some reason, Mi Yin felt his heart clench, as if he was about to lose something precious.

He watched, stunned, as the strange "Demon Beast" walked right up to him.

Biting back her tears, she choked out the words,

"Mi Yin, I don’t want you anymore..."

"I don’t want you anymore, do you hear me?! I hate that you’ve killed so many people, and now you’re trying to kill me and Ling Hong and the others..."

"If you don’t snap out of it, I’m done with you! I... I won’t love you anymore...!"

"Don’t cast me aside..."

An Jin looked up, stunned, tear tracks still fresh on her face. In her daze, she didn’t notice the danger rushing at her from behind.

Mi Yin suddenly surged forward. He reached past her, crushing the ball of black mist with his hand before pulling her into his arms and whisking her out of the danger zone.

He buried his face in the crook of her neck, repeating over and over, "Don’t cast me aside..." Though his eyes still saw a loathsome "Demon Beast," her words sent an uncontrollable ache through his heart.

He was terrified she would abandon him.

’No, that’s not right. The one trying to control me isn’t Jin’er. *It* wants to use my hands to kill Jin’er!’

His chaotic mind cleared for a moment. Condensing Energy in his palm, he blasted away the patch of black mist before him. The surrounding wisps roared and cowered in retreat.

However, more black mist surged in from all directions, completely surrounding the four of them.

An Jin had no time to worry about their surroundings. Kneeling on one knee, she placed her hands over Mi Yin’s eyes. A gentle, holy light emanated from her palms, dispelling the black mist that clouded his mind and vision.

He opened his eyes again.

The "Demon Beasts" before him had transformed back into familiar faces.

"Jin’er, I’m sorry..." He could now see the chaos around them, a significant part of which was his own "handiwork." He was filled with endless regret.

An Jin shook her head, her face pale. Choking back a sob, she said, "It’s not your fault. That power is ancient, almost no one can resist it. Even Ze Sheng..."

She looked up toward the distant center of the chaos.

After she had returned the Soul blood to Ze Sheng, the wounds on the white fox’s body were healing at a remarkable speed. The light radiating from him grew brighter as he tried to drive out the invaders who had trespassed into their world.

But as he fought against the black mist, An Jin instinctively glanced at the sky, and her pupils constricted.

The sky looked as if a giant hole had been punched through it, from which an endless torrent of black mist poured down onto the land. At the very center of the hole, a colossal figure that spanned the heavens and the earth flickered in and out of view.

Surrounding *It* were several controlled King Beasts.

Having lost all reason, these King Beasts were attacking the white fox.

Two of the King Beasts spotted An Jin’s group in the distance and immediately swooped down toward them. But before they could get close, Mi Yin flicked his wrist, sending a massive fireball to incinerate them.

There is a world of difference between an ordinary King Beast and one at the King Beast Peak.
