Chapter 1889 - 1890: A Lesson Learned the Hard Way

Only then did Chu Yu remember that she was different from Ling Zhenfei. In terms of economic level, she at most counted as moderately well-off, while Ling Zhenfei was actually well-to-do; they weren't even in the same bracket.

Seeing Chu Yu out there, Ling Zhenfei asked in mild surprise, "What's wrong, Chu Yu, is something up?"

Chu Yu hesitated a little and said, "Nothing really, I just couldn't sleep and wanted to chat with you."

Ling Zhenfei glanced at the time—it was already late—then said, "Sure. I think the view from here is pretty good. Why don't we chat while we look at the view?"

Chu Yu nodded. The two of them leaned on the railing like that, watching the flow of people on the street grow thinner and thinner as they started talking.

Chu Yu said, "Yeah. At first I thought the one who tricked us was that guy who'd partnered with us to buy rough stones, but who could've guessed the problem would turn out to be so complicated."

Ling Zhenfei said, "That's how it is— the more profitable the trade, the more people there are trying to scheme their way into it. It's all just because there's money to be made."

Chu Yu laughed and said, "I really don't seem cut out for this society, do I."

Ling Zhenfei said, "Don't let this one thing get you discouraged. Go out and see more, and you'll get used to it eventually."

Chu Yu nodded. "Forget it, let's not talk about this anymore. Let's talk about you. What are you doing in Rainbow City? You know, when I heard your voice today, I was so excited."

Ling Zhenfei said, "Running into an old acquaintance in a foreign place—of course you'd be excited."

Chu Yu asked, "So what did you come here for?"

Ling Zhenfei said, "Did you see the guy who came with me? He's from Wuliang Mountain nearby. I have some ties with them, and this time I came because I have to make a trip up to Wuliang Mountain."

Chu Yu said, "Did something happen to you? Why are you suddenly craving peace and quiet?"

Chu Yu said, "Then when are you coming back? I'll treat you to a meal."

Ling Zhenfei said, "I don't know when I'll be back. We'll talk about it when I return. I'll go visit Old Master Chu then anyway."

The two of them chatted for quite a while. Eventually, Chu Yu started to feel sleepy, and only then did she reluctantly head back to her own room.

Wuliang Mountain lay just east of Rainbow City, an expanse of continuous mountain ranges.

Among them, Wuliang Mountain was the main peak. Its elevation wasn't very high, but it was famous for its dangerous terrain.

There was also something else interesting about it: because the mountains connected with other mountains, and with the dense forest and strange rocks, there were no obvious paths. Even if you entered the mountains, you might not necessarily be able to find Wuliang Mountain.

The poisonous insects and ferocious beasts in the mountains, plus the strange illusions in the woods, meant getting lost in the mountains had become an everyday occurrence.

Because of that, Wuliang Mountain was known as one of the hardest mountains to find.

The real reason so many people failed to find Wuliang Mountain, of course, was that the people on the mountain didn't want others to know where it was.

The strange mists and confusing illusions in the mountains were mostly created on purpose by the cultivators living there to mislead outsiders.

Ling Zhenfei actually really liked going into the mountains, because he'd grown up in them.

He'd already gone into Xianling Mountain twice—so Wuliang Mountain was nothing to him.

With Mo Lun as their guide, the two of them moved through the mountains. Even though the path ahead was shrouded in mist, under Mo Lun's lead they still walked very quickly.

Ling Zhenfei asked Mo Lun, "Just how big is this Wuliang Mountain of yours? We've walked for so long and still haven't arrived?"

Mo Lun said, "Our Wuliang Mountain stretches for hundreds of li, with over a hundred big and small peaks. On top of that, we have special Formations in the mountains, so you end up taking many detours when you walk, which makes the journey feel even longer."
